Vervoe’s Typing Test allows you to easily measure a candidate's typing speed and accuracy. Available as a question type across all plans, it helps you assess essential typing skills in roles where speed and precision are key.
How to Add the Typing Test to Your Assessment
To use the Typing Test:
-
Go to the Create tab in your assessment.
-
Add a new question and select Typing Test as the question type.
-
Enter your own question introduction (2–3 sentences explaining why the test is included) or use the default pre-filled prompt.
- Update the question settings.
The test uses preconfigured text (available in both English and Spanish, depending on your account language settings) that cannot be edited and is considered moderate in difficulty.
How the Typing Test Works
-
The test is locked at 2 minutes and cannot be extended or shortened.
-
It can only be completed on a desktop.
-
No auto-correct, spelling, or grammar suggestions are enabled.
-
The timer begins as soon as the candidate types their first keystroke and cannot be paused.
-
Incorrect text is highlighted in red as the candidate types.
-
Candidates are given two attempts, and their best score is submitted.
-
Instant feedback is provided to candidates on completion.
Scoring Explained
The Typing Test scores candidates based on:
1. Gross Words Per Minute (WPM)
How fast the candidate types, without considering errors.
2. Adjusted WPM (Net Speed)
Typing speed after subtracting uncorrected errors per minute.
Formula:
Example:
Typed 200 characters in 30 seconds = (200 / 5) / 0.5 = 80 WPM
4 uncorrected errors in 30 seconds = 4 / 0.5 = 8 errors per minute
Adjusted WPM = 80 – 8 = 72 WPM
3. Accuracy
The percentage of correctly typed words (correct / total typed × 100).
Errors are calculated per word, not per character — multiple typos in one word still count as one error.
Grading Grid
Each candidate’s performance is given a Vervoe point score from 1 to 10, based on their average WPM:
This score, along with the candidate’s WPM, adjusted WPM, and accuracy, appears on their report card in Vervoe.
Summary
The Typing Test provides a quick, objective way to assess typing speed and accuracy. With auto-grading and instant feedback, it's a great addition to assessments where attention to detail and typing performance matter.
