Video questions are an effective way to assess a candidate’s communication skills, particularly for roles that require face-to-face interaction.
When to Use Video Questions
While video questions can be powerful tools, we recommend using them strategically. Only request video answers when face-to-face communication is essential for assessing the candidate’s performance. As a general guideline, two to three video questions per skills assessment strikes the right balance.
Be sure to follow our guide below to create a candidate friendly assessment.
Best Practices for Creating Skills Assessments
Adding a Video Question to an Assessment
To add a video question to your assessment:
- Select “Video” as the question type.
- Type your question in the provided text field.
Writing Your Question and Adding Media
- In the provided textbox, write your question clearly and concisely.
- You can enhance the question by adding media, such as:
-
- Audio for the candidate to listen to.
- Images or screenshots (e.g., a screenshot of an email or website).
- Videos for the candidate to watch.
Additionally, you can use rich text editing features to format your question, including options like:
- Bullet points
- Numbering
- Indentation
- Bold, italics, and underline for emphasis'
You can set a time limit for the candidate’s video response. For example, if you set a limit of 3 minutes, candidates will not be able to record longer responses.
Including a Correct Answer Sample
For each video question, include a correct answer sample. This helps the AI understand what constitutes a ‘good’ answer. The correct answer sample should be written in the format you expect candidates to follow in their responses.
Best Practices for Video Questions
- Include video questions from Q3 onwards: If video questions are the first in an assessment, adoption rates drop by over 30%.
- Limit to 3 video questions: If there are more than three, adoption drops by 15%.
- Keep video responses under 3 minutes: This ensures candidates provide concise and focused answers.
