There are three key ways to create a skills assessment with Vervoe:
- Use a pre-built library assessment
- Create an assessment from scratch
- Use the AI-assisted builder
Each method offers a different level of customisation and guidance depending on what you're looking for. This article will guide you through using the AI-assisted builder, which automates the process of creating job-specific assessments based on your job description.
AI Assessment Builder Overview
The AI Assessment Builder automatically creates tailored assessments for any role by analysing your job description and mapping it to our dynamic skills taxonomy, built from real hiring data. It selects the most relevant, validated questions to assess candidates in context, helping you hire faster and more accurately.

Step 1: Upload Your Job Description

To access the assessment builder, click New Assessment and select Generate Assessment, or use the Assessment Builder option in the main navigation menu.

Upload or paste your job description:
Ensure that your job description is detailed and comprehensive. Include information about the role's key responsibilities, required skills, and qualifications, as this will help the AI generate relevant questions. The more detailed your JD, the better the AI can tailor the assessment to your needs. -
Click "Next" to start the process.

Step 2: Review and Customise the Generated Assessment
Once the AI generates the assessment, review it to ensure the questions align with your requirements. You can:

Modify the content of the questions

Adjust the skills being assessed

Replace any irrelevant or inaccurate questions
You can also customise the assessment through the 'Preview and Edit' tab by:

Changing the question format (e.g., switching from multiple-choice to open-ended)

Reordering or removing questions by dragging and dropping

Adding custom questions to further tailor the assessment to your needs
The AI-generated assessment includes:

Three skill groups relevant to the role

Three validated questions per skill group, covering different question formats (e.g., multiple-choice, video, file uploads)
📌 Tip: AI-generated questions are structured to be highly relevant, but adding one or two company-specific questions can make the assessment more effective.
Step 3: Adjust Settings and Groupings
As with assessments created from scratch, you can:

Add timers or randomise question order

Enable auto-progression or auto-rejection

Update skill groupings in the "Skill Groups" tab
Step 4: Save and Invite Candidates
Once you're satisfied with your assessment, you can:

Click "Invite Candidates" to send out invitations via a shareable link. You can also embed the assessment on your careers page or integrate it with your ATS (Applicant Tracking System).
Tip: Posting the assessment directly on your careers page allows candidates to self-screen, saving you time in the hiring process.
