Vervoe has implemented several anti-cheating measures to ensure the integrity of your recruitment process while maintaining a positive candidate experience. Our anti-cheating features are designed to identify unusual behaviour and flag potential cases of cheating, without being invasive or penalising candidates for using tools like ChatGPT or the web for research.
Key Anti-Cheating Features
Plagiarism Detection
Vervoe’s plagiarism detection flags candidates whose answers match others across the platform. This includes detecting copied content from web sources, ChatGPT, and other candidates. When multiple candidates submit the same or very similar answers, the system flags them for further review.
The system compares the first 500 words of all text-based answers from candidates and flags duplicate responses. This is applied across all languages.
ChatGPT & Web-Based Content Matching
We use a sophisticated plagiarism feature that checks for copied content, including from ChatGPT or websites like Wikipedia. If an answer is flagged, a note indicating the source (e.g. https://www.wikipedia.org/) will appear alongside the flag.
Note: This feature is a paid feature. Please reach out to your account manager if you would like to discuss commercials.
Geolocation Flags
Geolocation detection flags candidates who appear to have completed the assessment from multiple locations within a short period (within a 30-minute window). This helps identify potential cheating, particularly if the logins occur from different cities.
Randomisation
Randomisation of questions helps ensure that no two candidates receive the same set of questions, reducing the risk of information being shared between candidates. It can be applied at both the question and skill group level.
Immersive Simulations & Question Types
Vervoe focuses on testing real skills through immersive simulations. Candidates will need to demonstrate their abilities in role-relevant scenarios, such as an Enterprise Sales Associate presenting a pitch or a UX Designer optimising a workflow. This makes it harder for candidates to simply copy and paste answers, as the task-based questions require active participation and skill application.
Visual & Audio Checks (Non-Invasive)
While Vervoe does not use invasive video proctoring (such as webcam monitoring), we offer video and audio questions to provide a real-time check on who is completing the task. This is an optional feature for employers to help verify the identity of candidates in flagged situations.
Multiple Attempt Prevention
Vervoe prevents candidates from attempting an assessment multiple times using the same email address. This ensures that candidates can only attempt an assessment once.
Disabling Copy-Paste
To prevent the risk of candidates copying text from external sources, Vervoe disables the ability for candidates to copy the question from the assessment. This deters candidates from utilising external sites. Additionally, employers can turn off pasting into answer fields to prevent cheating. This setting is available for Text, Numbers, and Simulations (Sales, QA, Marketing) question types. If enabled for any question, candidates will see an additional guidelines screen before the assessment begins.
Timers
Timers are adjustable for both individual questions and the entire assessment. Timed assessments can simulate real-world time pressures, but we recommend using them only when relevant to the job role (e.g., customer service tickets or sales quotas).
Summary
While tools like ChatGPT can be beneficial, candidates may misuse them to gain an unfair advantage. Vervoe’s immersive question types and simulations reduce the likelihood that candidates can cheat using AI, as these tasks require the application of real skills. However, if a candidate does use AI for research, Vervoe’s plagiarism detection will flag identical answers.
