Writing skills
How to test for these skills:
The best way to test for these heterogenetic skills is to utilize varied question types that Vervoe allows you to test for. For example, you can use multiple-choice questions to assess candidate’s knowledge relating to a particular topic such as SEO, provide a case study or scenario that contains data of a campaign that has recently been run and ask candidates to provide a summary and recommendations for next steps on a document or presentation, as well as provide a list of competing demands and have candidates prioritize which one they would action first, to assess their prioritization skills. Asking candidates to submit a piece of their favorite work or asking them to demonstrate their expertise through writing a paragraph or article, or designing a campaign will provide employers with insight into what content candidates can produce.
Digital Marketing assessments need to reflect the role as closely as possible to accurately test candidate’s expertise in the field but equally important to test for soft skills such as customer empathy, to see how candidates understand how consumers want to be sold to for different products and services.
When building out an assessment, consider what skills are most important for your organization and type these out in our skills assessment builder to create a bespoke assessment.

You can also start from one of our premade assessments titled Digital Marketing Manager Assessment under the expert section in our library. You can choose to customize the template or use it as-is.
Follow Best practices for higher completion rates and AI accuracy:
- Include a mix question types
- Include no more than 10 questions
- Include an intro about your company and the job role. This would be a great use of any company video.
- Start with an easy question and build up to the more difficult ones later in the assessment
- Restrict the use of timers, only use them in scenarios where an employee would be required to react in a limited amount of time
Where in the funnel should I use an assessment?
Digital Marketers tend to be in demand but the roles do not have a high volume of applications therefore, including a skills assessment after the first interview would most likely improve candidate completion rates. They also generally have experience in the role and will often be currently employed full time or freelancing work. Because of this, it’s important to consider a candidate’s time investment in the recruitment process and ensure you are optimizing skills assessment adoption and completion rates. Furthermore, in this space, it is not common practice to complete skills assessments in the recruitment process, prior to speaking with a recruiter about the role so candidates will expect to have more context around the position and organisation before the time investment.
We recommend first speaking with your candidates in this space and using an assessment to validate their skills towards the end of the funnel. This way, candidates know what to expect and are already invested and demonstrated a genuine interest in the role.
